Eating and Drinking
Hands down, the *best* coffee in town, and only 2.5 minutes from the cottage. They also serve excellent breakfast and lunches.
A relative newcomer (opened in 2025) Sandro's is a fantastic restaurant with a small, carefully curated menu of dishes using local produce; find Sandro's in Drake's Way, just off the main street. Booking essential, open Wed-Sat from 12pm. Call 01297 599 801 to book a table.
Really great pizza. Poco is located near the Cobb - 29 Marine Parade - so if you order takeaway, you will be able to test your speed by getting it back to the cottage before it loses heat. It's worth the challenge. If you want to eat in, it's essential to book. Their menu is here.
Another seafront favourite, Kiosk is a small café run by friendly staff, who make excellent cheese toasties, sandwiches, and coffee.
Incredible ice cream in two locations: a kiosk at 23 Marine Parade (the seafront) and a gelato bar at 4 Broad Street.
For fish and chips, try Herbies, on Marine Parade, close to the sandy beach and the Cobb.
Activities
The sea! A short walk from the cottage and you are on Marine Parade. Safe swimming is off the sandy beach near the Cobb - the harbour creates a natural shelter. For exploring rockpools (check tide times), turn left along the parade at the bottom of Broad Street, and walk along the front toward Charmouth. You can access the beach at a few different points along the walk.
Walking - there are plenty of great local walks; across the fields to Golden Cap is a favourite. There is a book listing others on the shelf in the living room, as well as an Ordnance Survey map which you are welcome to borrow.
Dogs: aren't allowed on the main Front Beach from May 1st to September 30th, but are allowed on leads between October 1st and April 30th. To walk off-lead try Church Cliff, East Cliff and Monmouth - check the signs for up-to-date info.
To try local craft beer and ales, visit lymeregisbrewery.com. Their Taproom with outdoor seating is in the Town Mill area - a couple of minutes from the bottom of Sheborne Lane, via the Lynch walk.
Good Shops
Ryder and Hope sell a nicely curated and mixed selection of homeware, clothing, books and furniture. And lots of other things. You can see their shop with its lovely window display from the entrance to Sherborne Lane.
Down the hill from the cottage, at 65 Broad Street, is this incredible second-hand bookshop with it's labyrinthine network of tiny rooms crammed with books on every subject. Worth a visit just for the experience going all the way to the back, and then trying to find your way out.
… is dangerous because it is directly opposite the entrance to Sherborne Lane, and so only one minute from the cottage. A great selection of local and imported foods. Learn more at their website: cibodelilyme.com
